Waldorf University is pleased to announce its partnership with the Military Firefighter Heritage Foundation to present the Military Firefighter Heritage Foundation Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a deserving Department of Defense Firefighter (Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, or Civilian) to be used towards an Associate, Bachelor, or Master’s degree.  The scholarship is valued at up to $24,000 and 60 credit hours and will be presented to one individual who demonstrates leadership qualities in his or her current performance of duty and shows great potential for increased leadership roles and promotion through the DOD Fire Emergency Services System.

Eligibility

All Department of Defense Fire Emergency Services personnel (Active Duty, Guard, Reserves, and Civilians, in all DOD Components. Applicants who have at least 1 year of service in the DOD Fire Emergency Services are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Additionally, the member must be in good standing, with no disciplinary actions noted in their personnel record.

  • WU will grant one scholarship to one firefighter of the Military Firefighter Heritage Foundation. 
  • Scholarship applicants must have a high school transcript or equivalent (GED), and meet Waldorf University admissions requirements. To apply, visit waldorf.edu/apply and select "Online Programs" (scholarship is awarded for online programs only).
  • Scholarship applicants must have an open application for admission to Waldorf University OR be a current student. 
  • Scholarship applicants must provide verification documents to show eligibility. Acceptable verification documents include: 
    • A statement of employment on letterhead
    • Copy of an employment card
    • Recommendation letter from a supervisor or HR Rep
  • The scholarship recipient:
    • Must enroll within ninety (90) days from the award notification date. If the recipient does not enroll within this timeframe, they will lose the scholarship.
    • Must  maintain continuous enrollment in his or her degree program.
    • Is required to maintain a minimum 2.0 undergraduate GPA or a 3.0 graduate GPA.

Amount of Award

This scholarship will cover up to 60 credit hours toward one online degree program offered by Waldorf University (recipient’s choice). The scholarship will be applied directly to the recipient’s tuition for up to 36 consecutive months or until the selected online degree program is completed, whichever occurs first. The scholarship covers tuition only. All fees are the responsibility of the student. Waldorf University's Loan-a-Book program will cover textbooks.

One complimentary evaluation will be completed to evaluate potential transfer credits from past education and/or professional certifications (Fire, Emergency Management, etc.). Waldorf University will also evaluate military CCAF and JST transcripts, if applicable.

Number of Awards

One non-transferrable scholarship.

Submission Window

Submissions will be accepted from October 1 through January 31, annually.

Date of Award

The recipient will be announced no later than March 31. The MFFHF and Waldorf University will coordinate a presentation at the recipients convenience.
