The Possibilities
As a Humanities BA major at Waldorf University, you will study how people of your own culture and of other cultures relate to each other and the world, both today and in the past. Those courses help you apply your own experiences as you try to understand all of the complex factors that shape the communities out of which you come to college and which you will enter after graduation.
Students investigate the choices that individuals, families, communities, and even nations make. As one of those students, you will analyze problems and interpret information while forming and communicating effective solutions and reasoned judgements supported by evidence. Creativity, and perhaps even performance, will be nurtured as you gain confidence in the means of expression you choose for your ideas.
With the skills and perspectives developed via the Humanities BA, you will also be well-prepared for immediate entry into a career or further education at the graduate level in a variety of fields.

The Details
The Humanities BA (HBA) at Waldorf is an interdisciplinary degree. Rather than focusing on one field of study to the exclusion of others, the HBA program offers a broad liberal arts education, focusing on developing critical thinking, writing and research skills in students. Through courses in the Fine Arts, History, Literature, Philosophy, Religion and Writing, students examine and discuss the program’s central question – What does it mean to be human? – from a variety of perspectives. In order to do this, students choose among a wide selection of courses.
While some students continue their education in graduate programs (e.g. English or History) or professional schools (e.g. Law or Seminary), others enter the workforce immediately, finding employment in corporate management, museums, theatres, music organizations, churches, or publishing firms, among others. Where students head after graduation depends on their sense of vocation and their ambition.

A Broad Base of Knowledge
Rather than training student in one focused field of study, the HBA program offers a broad liberal arts education to develop critical thinking, writing skills, inquisitive minds, and expansive views of the intertwined nature of the various branches of humanities. Students gain an expansive breadth of knowledge as they explore ideas in English, history, music, art, philosophy, religion, and theatre as well as their area of concentration.
Internships
Humanities internships are flexibly designed to match the interests of individual students. They extend beyond the classroom by providing valuable job experience in humanities organizations such as museums, theatres, music organizations, and galleries, as well as at the Waldorf Writing Center, ESL classrooms, publishing companies, crisis intervention agencies, and historical sites.
Study Abroad
Most HBA students study abroad in the first five-week block of their fifth semester. Two weeks are spent reading assigned texts and five weeks in a study location abroad. The two-week reading period allows students to build a knowledge base before traveling overseas for three weeks. Waldorf faculty accompany students abroad and instruct courses on-site.
Graduate School Entrance
Personalized instruction from faculty is a major benefit in preparing students for the selection and admittance process for graduate school. Waldorf's HBA program has a very high acceptance rate for those applying to graduate programs.
